NOMEX®: CERTIFIED FIRE RESISTANCE

BUFF® Safety FR-rated balaclavas, hoods, hat, and neck gaiters are tested and certified according to the highest standards and offer superior fire protection. A big part of that is due to the inherent protection of Nomex® fiber by DuPont™ used in most BUFF® flameproof clothing.
Designed with greater comfort in mind, Nomex® hoods and neck gaiters offer fire resistance and anti-static performance in single or double stretchable, breathable layers of fabric, meticulously blending top-grade Aramid Fibers, Viscose FR®, and Modacrylic. Choose from a range of head and neck accessories based on your department's needs, from flameproof balaclavas and hoods for full head protection to fire-resistant hat and neck gaiters, with custom design options for each to create original BUFF® branded products.
All products from the Fire Resistant family have received the EU certificate in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and EN ISO 11612:2015 standards regarding “Protective clothing – Clothing to protect against heat and flame” and follow the EN ISO 1149-5:2018 standard regarding “Protective clothing – Electrostatic properties”.

Nomex® is heat and flame-resistant fiber – its chemical structure and non-flammable properties are considered unique, and won't melt, drip, or combust in air. When exposed to extreme temperatures and fire, the fibers thicken and carbonize, absorbing the heat. As well as resisting extreme temperatures, thanks to its advanced thermo-technology, garments made with Nomex® offer optimum comfort and durability.

Yes, all BUFF® Safety FR range neck gaiters are multifunctional and versatile. They can be worn in more than 10 different positions to extend the coverage: as a mask, balaclava, or hat.

Occupations subject to fire hazards such as unexpected fires, extreme heat, and explosions, require all workers to be equipped with fire-protective clothing.

All products from the Fire Resistant family have received the EU certificate in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and EN ISO 11612:2015 standards regarding “Protective clothing – Clothing to protect against heat and flame” with the following performance levels: A1, B1, C1, F1, in all the products except for the family MODACRYL FR BALACLAVA which has obtained the performance levels A1, A2, B1, C1, and F1, and follow the EN ISO 1149-5:2018 standard regarding “Protective clothing – Electrostatic properties”.

The main difference is in both products' composition. BUFF® Fire Resistant is made with Nomex® M-Aramid fiber, while the main fabric used in Modacryl FR is modacrylic. Because Modacryl FR Multifunctional Neckwear is a lighter product, it's more suitable for warmer weather conditions compared to the Fire Resistant Multifunctional Neckwear.
