The Power of Community with Jolie Foulée: Paris Most Untalented Run Club

As part of the BUFF® Run Club Van Tour, we’re making a very special stop in Paris this fall — and we couldn’t do it without teaming up with our longtime friends from Jolie Foulée, a crew of self-proclaimed “untalented runners” who’ve been shaking up the running scene since 2013.
We caught up with Jérémie Roturier, co-founder of the club, to talk about how it all started, the role of community, and why running Montmartre in questionable outfits with friends is always a good idea.
Let’s start at the beginning — how did Jolie Foulée get started?
“We started Jolie Foulée back in 2013, when running wasn’t as popular as it is now. We were just a group of friends who wanted to show running the way we lived it: struggling, laughing and adding our own sense of style.
Back then, no media really talked about running the way we felt it — so we decided to do it ourselves. It turned out lots of people felt the same, and started following our adventures. Some even joined in, and that’s how the crew grew.
We also organized a few unsanctioned private races in Paris with weird concepts, which brought more people in to share the fun.”

Jolie Foulée is known for its unique personality — fun, bold, and a little rebellious. How would you describe your club’s spirit in one sentence?
“We’re untalented runners whose mission is to run the opposite way everyone else does.
We like to do things differently, wear colours that shouldn’t go together, and always bring the fun. We love making fun of ourselves, keeping it sarcastic, and hopefully inspiring people to see running from another angle.”

What role does community play in the way you run and organize events? Has it changed how you see running or how others around you have connected?
“Community has been at the centre of everything from day one. We started by writing blog posts, sharing our runs, and hosting events to bring people together.
Along the way, we’ve met so many friends and lived some crazy moments — that’s what keeps us going. Without the community, Jolie Foulée probably wouldn’t be here today. Or at least it wouldn’t be half as fun or inspiring.”
You’ve built a strong presence on Strava. How has the platform helped you grow and connect your community? Do you use it for tracking, sharing, motivation — or all of the above?
“Strava is a big one for us. Beyond just tracking runs, it’s where we connect with people who actually love running as much as we do.
It’s different from other social media — everyone there digs running. We’ve done quite a few events with the Strava team too, who’ve supported and trusted what we do.
Of course, we use it personally to track runs and share performances, but the Jolie Foulée Club on Strava is mainly there to inspire the crew and invite people to come run with us.”
You’re joining the BUFF® Run Club Van Tour this fall — what excites you about this collab? What can runners expect when we hit Montmartre together?
We’re really hyped for it! Can’t wait to test the new socks and bring our community out for something unique.
We’ve cooked up a special event in Paris with BUFF®, we’ll hit an iconic segment in Montmartre with a nasty incline, and try to steal the KOM crown.
It’s going to be intense, chaotic, and lots of fun, in true Jolie Foulée’s fashion.
For someone discovering Jolie Foulée for the first time, what’s one thing you want them to know?
“For us, running is mostly about having fun, sharing moments with people you like, and feeling good.
And to be honest… we probably love partying even more than running.”
Lastly, your favourite all time BUFF ® product?
If we had to pick one, the Desert Cap. Such a great style and it saved us under the burning UTMB ® sun last summer.
But you know what, we’ve almost tried them all out, and we also love BUFF® Headbands, the Speed Visor and the 5 Panel Go cap (watch this space…), just to name a few.
